Welcome to the Yanconians' Foundation
Welcome to the Yanconians' Foundation
Thank you for visiting our Foundation Website. We are an active, prosperous and innovative alumni organisation. The Old Yanconians' Union Inc. has spent 12 months establishing the Foundation complete with DGR status, which simply means donors can now claim full tax deductibility for any financial contributions they may wish to invest in the Foundation. To garner the energy required, we must increase participation from our alumni. This will be directed into new activities, utilising the skills and resources of the thousands of Yanconians scattered all over the world.
It allows us to support and enhance the school's capacity as well as the development of Yanco Ag students. For instance, child welfare in its many forms, is an upfront priority for the Foundation.
In addition, we want to identify and exploit developing technologies. These will be critical to our goal of fundraising as well as honing our skills as communicators and listeners.
We will build alliances with a wide range of organisations within corporate Australia, players in agriculture, financiers and groups championing the interests of women and indigenous Australians. Such allegiances are vital for our future financial success.
Our Foundation will keep its fingers on the pulse regarding future developments within agribusiness both here and overseas.
This will allow our networks to be continually leveraged and focussed on Foundation programs as well as supplementing the learning experiences of Yanco Ag students.
We want to make a mark on Australia's future through the dynamic young men and women who attend Yanco Ag now and into the years ahead.
There is a nationwide shortage of agricultural graduates right now.
Your support, both morally and financially will certainly ensure our students are better prepared for a positive future in Australia.
'As you sow, so shall you reap'.

The school has achieved a measure of distinction in public examinations and competitions. Many of its graduates have gone into multiple agricultural pursuits, veterinary science, medicine, healthcare, education, law and financial services.
Its sporting teams have won local and State competitions. These include successes in the CHS University Shield and Buckley Shield in rugby league and the Wyburd Shield in rugby union.
The school's show stock team has had major success in regional shows, Canberra, Melbourne and the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The school maintains studs of Limousin cattle and White Suffolk and merino sheep.
These endeavours have ensured Yanco Agricultural High School continues to be held in high esteem by local and rural communities throughout NSW.

YAHS P&C Association
The Yanco Agricultural High School Parents and Citizens' Association (YAHS P&C) is an integral component of the school community or Yanco family. The YAHS P&C liaises with the school and represents parents' issues and concerns that have been raised during the school year.
Annual fundraising events coordinated by the YAHS P&C Association include the Beach Carnival, Gala Day, and the McCaughey Ball.
The Beach Carnival is traditionally held on the Friday before Gala Day in March each year. It's a tradition dating back to the 1930s and is a remarkable social and sporting day on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.
Originally held at the School Beach, the carnival is now held at Middle Beach and is a day full of fun for the whole family.
Gala Day is traditionally held on the second Saturday in March each year. It was inaugurated in the late 1940s.
Gala Day is the major fundraising event held during the year. It is coordinated by the YAHS P&C with the support and assistance of staff, students and the OYU, at the school.
The YAHS P&C is also responsible for organising the very popular McCaughey Ball for Year 11 and Year 12 students and their parents, held in June each year. McCaughey Balls have been held annually since the 1990s.
All events help the YAHS P&C raise much needed funds to be distributed to assist the school in funding educational, social and sporting programs, student welfare and other extracurricular activities that will be of benefit to all students at YAHS.
The YAHS P&C welcomes all parents and citizens to its meetings and events at Yanco Agricultural High School.

In the late 1930s, the OYU moved its main branch to Leeton, where a lot of YAHS alumni were farming in the district. Sub-branches also existed for many years in the NSW Central-West, Canberra and Sydney.
The Old Yanconians incorporated in the early 1990s and still meets in Leeton. As well as the annual reunion dinners, its produces The Yanco Echo and maintains a Facebook page and a website.
The OYU organises an annual reunion dinner to which alumni and partners are welcome, as well as former and current staff. The dinner is also attended by the current school principal, deputy principals and the student leadership team.
The OYU sponsors five annual prizes (Year 7 proficiency, Year 12 proficiency, Charles Knights prize, Perc. Hillyer prize, and the James McEwan King prize). Four of these come in the form of life membership of the OYU.
The OYU has always functioned to keep former students and staff in contact with each other and the school. Funds raised go to various projects at YAHS that will benefit all students in some way.
Over the last sixty years, the Old Yanconians' Union has contributed significantly to school improvements including the War Memorial, assistance with the School Council efforts to build the swimming pool, fundraising for the Giltinan Sports Hall and amenities such as barbecues and seating (Bicentennial Project 1988) sporting facilities and equipment. Providing financial support for students attending international sporting events has also been undertaken.
As a school centenary project for 2022, the OYU is creating a foundation to fund educational opportunities for students at YAHS. It is also undergoing a digital transformation so it is more relevant to younger alumni and more able to keep in contact and encourage networking of alumni throughout the world.
